What Are the Different Types of Stucco Finishes?
Stucco installation is one of the most popular ways of incorporating your walls into the decoration of your home or business. If you haven’t decided yet how you would like your walls to look, stick with us because we bring the ultimate guide of stucco textures and finishes.
Light Textures
These types of finishes are characterized by their flatness. They maintain the wall’s original relief and just add visual effects. The smooth finish is the lightest texture of stucco and, as the name suggests, it is what you get when scrapping stucco to its more polished look. Two other examples of light texture stucco are Santa Barbara and Cat Face finishes. The first one is a semi-smooth texture inspired by old Californian adobe buildings, whereas the latter is also semi-smooth but the visual effect created is one with chunky but small brush strokes or rough flat patches.
Medium Textures
These are the most classical textures, and they were very popular at the beginning of the century. The first one you can find is the Spanish lace finish, which has the visual effect of several irregular bumps that have been flattened to the same level. Worm finish, on the other hand, is also irregular but the aspect of the pattern includes curvy irregular lines carved into the wall that look like little worms. Along these styles, you can also find the popular Venetian stucco which visually imitates the curves and lines of marble.
Heavy Textures
Heavy stucco textures are usually used in exteriors since their main feature is their roughness. Dash is the one that looks as if gravel had been glued to the wall. It can vary from a delicate and thin gravelly coat to a harsh, big-rock finish. On the delicate side, one of its variations is the sand finish, which needs no further explanation. On the harsh side, you can find the pebbledash, which includes little rocks into the wall creating a pattern of stones.
